By definition, CrossFit is a strength and conditioning program, that utilizes “constantly varied, functional movements, performed at high intensity” (courtesy of CrossFit Inc.), to prepare you for anything that life may throw at you. We borrow movements and exercises from sports such as Olympic weightlifting, gymnastics, and track and field, and we mix it up a lot, so your body is always adapting, getting stronger, faster, better conditioned, leaner, and meaner!
CrossFit is also the trusted fitness program used by many law enforcement officials, firemen, and active military personnel to keep them in shape and ready for the life and death rigors that their jobs and duties entail.

“NOT ONLY DID I LOSE NEARLY 65 LBS, I CAN NOW SAY THAT I AM ‘FIT’!”
“I’ve spent most of my life not being, or caring about, the term “fit”. Throughout my childhood and most of my adult life I gave no thought to what I was eating or the lack of any physical activity I was undergoing. What did it matter? I had always been thin, so in my mind there was no need to worry about it. WRONG. I found that my past was quickly catching up with me entering my final year of high school. I had started rapidly gaining weight and after I graduated it only got worse. Then one day I woke up and realized not only was I not fit, I was unhealthy, lazy, and undeniably, I was the dreaded “F” word. More importantly then all of that, I had never been more unhappy.
Then came Crossfit. It hit my life like a ton of bricks. I was forced to try out a class by and old friend and I HATED it. It was hard, I felt like I was going to throw up every time I endured a horrendous WOD, and everyone was better then I was. But, despite my reservations, I kept going back.
Three years later I can honestly say that ONE decision to stick with Crossfit has completely changed my life. Not only did I lose nearly 65 lbs, I can now say that I am “fit”, healthy, and extremely happy. I now not only enjoy my daily WODs, I look forward to them and the prospect of getting stronger and faster every day. I have found my true passion in Crossfit and and even greater passion in coaching. My hope is to instill that same passion in others that I have found in myself.”
“I WISH I HAD FOUND CROSSFIT SOONER!”
“As a former college football player and current high school football coach, I have been involved with fitness all of my life. However, I have never seen the improvement and success that I have since being introduced to CrossFit back in February. Fightworx offers varied workouts that target strength, athleticism, conditioning, and skill. I have learned a tremendous amount, and am continuing to improve every time I workout. CrossFit gives you the opportunity to compete with your classmates while fostering a team like environment at the same time. You are constantly pushing yourself, and pushing those around you. Form is key here, so all the moves are taught and executed in a proper and safe way. I wish I had found CrossFit sooner!”
I just wanted to thank you for everything you have done for me. Your training has not only made me stronger physically but mentally as well. You taught me how to push myself to the absolute limit. If you are looking to excel in your sport or life itself and push your mind and body to levels you never thought you could, Fightworx is where you need to be.
RUTGERS NEWARK ATHLETE OF THE YEAR for the 2012-13 SEASON
Fightworx has taught me to fight against myself and be better than what I was yesterday. To fight against the reps that are on the board and push past the voice in my head saying to give up. You have taught me more than just lifting but how to live life. Always strive for more and never be satisfied with what is in front of me. If you want to reach passed the stars, Crossfit Fightworx is the right place.
” I’ve always considered myself an athlete but it wasn’t until I started CrossFit that I actually trained like one.”
I played college basketball for 4 yrs and I was one of the top conditioned and strongest player. After graduating, I continued my passion for personal training and started working for several of the top corporate gyms in NYC where I started hearing more about CrossFit. I started incorporating bits and pieces of what a CrossFit workout would consist of but never experienced a full session.
After months of procrastination I finally found a CrossFit Box to try out. That’s when I walked in Crossfit Fightworx in Berkley Height, NJ. I am originally from the Bronx but have been staying out in Jersey for a job assignment. I found myself too laid back when it came to working out and staying in shape so I decided to step things up and became a member at Crossfit Fightworx. After starting CrossFit, I knew what it really felt like to be sore.
CrossFit has brought out the inner athlete in me and after a month I registered to become a Level 1 Crossfit Coach. After as little as a month, I’ve seen changes in my body like never before. Now I have people walk up to me asking if I workout and what I do to stay in shape.
CrossFit has changed my whole mentality about working out; I have not completed a traditional back-bicep, chest-tricep bodybuilding split since I started CrossFit. If you want great results I highly suggest CrossFit. You will accomplish things you would have never thought you could. The awesome community of great individuals is a Bonus! Bring out your inner Beast, come to CrossFit Fightworx and get into the best shape you’ve ever been!”
“I’VE LOST 60 LBS IN 6 MONTHS, AM IN THE BEST SHAPE OF MY LIFE, AND RECENTLY JUST GOT INTO THE AIR FORCE!”
My name is Chase and in January 2013 I joined the gym Crossfit Fightworx simply to try something new. At the time I weighed about 240 and was struggling to lose weight even though I thought I was dieting and eating properly. My goal was to get down to 187 lbs so that I could make qualifications for entering the Air Force and start my career in government work. The few months before I started crossfit were really hard because I wasn’t losing the weight I needed to make the cut and I was continually discouraged. Then I saw an ad for Crossfit Fightworx, that changed everything for me. The first month was rough but I lost 20 lbs! It was amazing, I felt great and my fitness was only getting better. The workouts were insane but I loved it, every minute. The big difference here is that it’s not your average gym. Instead it’s a group of like minded people who want to improve their fitness for whatever reason but want to bust their ass doing it. This isn’t your “do a few reps then rest for 20 minutes” type of gym. This is a high intensity, push yourself to the edge type of gym. Together with the camaraderie that comes with this type of gym and the help of the highly qualified coaching staff I’ve lost over 60 lbs in 6 months and I’m in the best shape of my life. I’ve completely change my eating habits, my exercise style and my whole life in general. I’ve also made the cut to join the Air Force and leave in a few short months. All in all I truly don’t believe I could have done it without Crossfit Fightworx. I’ll see you there.

“I STARTED IN APRIL AND AFTER 4 MONTHS, I’VE MADE PROGRESS IN MY STRENGTH AND SPEED.”
I have been an athlete my whole life. I’m a mom to an active toddler, a marathon runner, a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). I have a shoulder injury that has limited my mobility in my shoulder my whole life.
I’m training for my third marathon, the NYC marathon, and I wanted to find a way to work on my weaknesses to get faster and get stronger. I wanted to prevent injury while I trained for NYC. I trained injured last year when I trained for NYC, which was cancelled days before the race thanks to Hurricane Sandy and I didn’t want to go through that again. I also want to smash my current marathon PR of 4:44:47 when I run NYC in November. My goal is between 4 and 4:30 ( I really want 4!)
I was a Crossfit skeptic when I heard my friends talk about it. I heard about how other runners have dropped their times, gotten stronger and leaner and faster and injury-free thanks to Crossfit and the HIIT (high intensity interval) workouts. I’ve become a Crossfit advocate thanks to Chas and the crew at Crossfit Fightworx.
I really appreciate that Chas focuses on performing the Olympic lifts with good form, giving really good feedback and cues for correcting form, incorporating dynamic stretches into the warm-ups, full-body exercises and plyometrics into the WODs, and adapting workouts to fit each persons need (ie changing my workouts if my shoulder doesn’t have the mobility or strength for the exercises in the WOD).
I started in April and after 4 months I’ve made progress in my strength and speed. I don’t have any 1RMs to share, but I know that I have improved my deadlift and clean technique with Chas’ corrections and focus on proper technique and form. I can also do a lot of the overhead exercises and lifts that I have never even attempted or been good at. I am getting closer to doing an unassisted pull-up for the first time in my life. I also for the first time ever performed a snatch, which is a very complex full-body overhead Olympic lift. My times for 5Ks and 10Ks have dropped significantly to where I am matching my PRs (from 2010, pre-baby) for those distances. I feel stronger, fitter, and have less pain in my low back and no pain where my previous marathoning injury was.
I’m looking forward to successfully reaching my marathon PR goal and continuing my journey to get stronger, leaner, and faster with the help of Chas and the Crossfit Fightworx coaches.
